Choosing the Right Topic

The reason “content” is so popular these days with the masses is fairly simple. If you want to rank highly in search engines without paying for ad space… you have to create relevant, ongoing content. I’m talking about a simple blueprint for marketing just about anything online. You write about a topic. You sell products having to do with or complimenting that topic. You rise to the top of Google’s organic search engine rankings. You can see, then, how important finding the right topic can be. The right topic may not always be the “hot topic” of the hour. Many people have gotten into Internet Marketing over the years, selling marketing related information and software – only to disappear after a few years.

For some, the reason was simply the massive increase in competition. When it comes to Internet Marketing, I can’t tell you have much regurgitated information has resurfaced over the last decade. The thing is, you can only say the same thing differently so many times. After a while, the fact that your information doesn’t have the type of depth people are looking for becomes evident. If you go to 100-different sites and download articles about email marketing – how many of them will really stand out in the crowd. That’s right. Not that many. The ones that stand out are written by those who’ve actually “done it” and have gained insight and experience in that area. How many people have really done that? That’s right. Not that many.

When it comes to choosing the right topic, it really depends on your objective. If you want to make some fast cash, your objective is going to be very different that it will if you’re trying to build a business – or even a part-time, secondary income.

In most cases, choosing the right topic can be broken down into two simple pieces of advice.

1. Choose a topic you know a lot about.

2. Choose a topic you’re really interested in learning about

In the case of #2, the more interest you have… the faster you’ll pick up new information and have something of value to share or SELL to others.
