Starting Out With A Decent Idea

You can start out online with a decent idea. I’ve actually built small business sites around “decent” ideas. Decent is what you might call a starting point for something that may have greater potential somewhere down the road. Over time, I’ve modified enough of what I was doing until “decent” found itself being upgraded to GOOD. It may not happen immediately, but you can most certainly generate income from decent ideas when you start taking action on them.

I measure success in different ways – depending upon the project. If I’m trying to promote an idea or ideal of some sort, I measure the success of the project based upon a few things. First, the response. How many people respond to what I’m promoting? If I’m not looking to convert responses into buyers, I may measure success differently. Site traffic, number of downloads, number of free subscriptions, etc., are a few examples.

If you’re a perfectionist, you may find yourself getting caught up with coming up with a great idea before taking action and moving forward. That’s not a good idea.

A decent idea isn’t perfect, hence the term “decent.” It has flaws and possible shortcomings. If the best you can come up with is a decent idea, all’s not lost. People buy decent products, programs and services every day. For a lot of people, depending upon the area in question, decent is good enough.S

I love homemade tomato sauce. The kind that cooks for 3 to 4 hours with meatballs, sausage, etc. Over time, I’ve had good – even great dishes made with the “real” thing. Of course, if I want to make a quick plate of Ravioli’s, more often than not, I’ll go to the store and buy a decent jar of tomato sauce. It’s not great. It doesn’t taste homemade. But it will do the job. If I have other things to do and don’t want to invest the time or spend the money to have someone else provide what I’m looking for in a restaurant setting – decent will do just fine.

Decent ideas can become good ideas as you modify and develop them over time. Over time, a decent idea can be developed into a good idea much like a raw piece of meat can be developed into an elegant entrée.

Good ideas speak for themselves. It doesn’t take long to discover whether your idea is good or not. Like a decent idea, good ideas can be developed into great ideas over time. It’s not a given, but it does happen.

Facebook and Google are examples of Great Ideas (at least for their developers). Great ideas can lose their greatness, however, over time if the original formula is deviated from too much. We’ve all seen examples of this.

In your own life, if you’re drawing blanks, shooting blanks or in any other way coming up empty with your search for good ideas, maybe it’s time to take a step back and take action on what seems to be a decent one instead? Either way you look at it, every idea is ultimately made of the raw material of thought. Until you do something with it… it remains locked with the file cabinets of the mind.

And that is definitely – a bad idea.
