The “Fast Publishing” Business Model

Blogging is a great way to test different ideas to gauge interest in a particular subject. Whether you get direct feedback or not, you can always review your traffic stats to see which articles get the most traffic. If you have a web host with a CPanel installed on it, login and look for the smiley face logo and the word “Fantastico” beneath it. Fantastico is a program that automates the installation of a variety of software programs that would otherwise have to be installed manually. In other words, it’s a non-tech solution for software installs.

Once you’ve opened Fantastico, choose WordPress and install it in either your main directory or a sub-directory. For instance, www.simplepublications.com is my main, top level directory. www.simplepublications.com/blog would be a sub-directory. If you already have a full working site, it’s no problem at all to install a blog on a sub-directory. All of this is done through Fantastico with simple, fill-in-the-blanks boxes that will appear on your screen once you choose to install WordPress.

There are plenty of online video tutorials available to help you through choosing a WordPress template design, what plugins to use, etc. WordPress comes with a very basic default template design that many people find perfectly fine to use once they replace the header graphic and modify it with their own. Google “Wordpress Templates” for more information.

The main purpose of using WordPress is this – you now have a quick and easy way of writing, publishing and marketing articles with any subject or in any niche you can think of.

GET READERS – FAST!

You can invite friends on Facebook or Twitter. If you go to discussion forums, you can create a signature link that will appear at the bottom of your posts that contains your link. Yahoo Answers is another great way to stream additional traffic through to your site with people who share common interests.

A friend of mind had an idea for a news-type blog. Over the weekend, he installed WordPress on his new domain and by Monday, he’d written his first article.  My initial advice to him was to understand the difference between posts and pages.

Pages are generally static. Below are examples of WordPress Pages

  • About Page
  • Contact Page
  • Map Page
  • FAQ Page

Posts, on the other hand, are basically articles. These are the articles that appear on the front page of your site. The new article appears at the top and pushes the older ones down. When you login to WordPress, you can create a new page or a new post. As long as you know the difference between the two, you’re basically all set.

Yes, there are a lot of technical tweaks you make and there are many built in SEO features you can use… but if you’re just starting out – get started. You can pick up the rest as you go along. After your new topic resonates with your readers, you can then step it up a notch. The sky is the limit. About a month ago, a writer from the Wall Street Journal contacted me to interview me about information on one of my niche sites for an article he was writing. Think about it. In what other time could a simple blog publisher attract the attention of a national publication?

Attaching a Blog to an idea can give a business wings faster than almost any other method in existence today.

If you enjoy writing, there’s no reason not to get started today. If you hate typing but want to enjoy the benefits of blogging, I’ll give you the same advice I recently gave to my better half. Get yourself a copy of Mavis Beacon teaches typing… but in the meanwhile, buy Dragon Naturally Speaking. This program has helped millions of people (not just a few of which are physically handicapped and unable to use a keyboard).
